Dear Indian Township School Families,
As a follow-up to our earlier communication regarding the school closure, I must inform you of an important update. After further consultation with the Maine CDC about the increasing number of Norovirus and Influenza (the Flu) cases in our school community, we have made the decision to extend our closure through Monday, January 20, 2025. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
While our initial closure was planned for just two days, the rapid spread of illness we observed today (reaching 44 students and 12 staff members), combined with the Maine CDC's guidance regarding Norovirus containment, necessitates this extended closure period.
CONTINUITY OF LEARNING. To ensure continuous learning during this closure, we have implemented the following measures:
Our teachers prepared and distributed one-week work packets to all students.
We will continue our transition to remote learning for the duration of the closure
Families who did not receive work packets can arrange for pickup or digital delivery by contacting the main office
This extended closure will:
Allow for complete implementation of CDC-recommended deep cleaning protocols
Provide adequate time for ill students and staff to fully recover
Enable us to break the transmission cycle of the virus
Ensure our facility is thoroughly sanitized using EPA-registered disinfectants specific to Norovirus
This update supersedes our earlier communication about reassessing on Wednesday, January 13, 2025. We understand this extended closure may create challenges for families, but it is essential for ensuring the health and safety of our entire school community.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to address this situation.
Sincerely,
Molly Newell
Principal
