Handwriting Without Tears®
More About Handwriting Without Tears®
Did you know that all letters and numbers start at the top when we write?
Here at Indian Island School, we use the program Handwriting Without Tears® to guide instruction for our youngest students.
Handwriting Without Tears® is a research-based curriculum that builds strong early literacy skills.
HWT follows a developmentally appropriate sequence for learning to print upper and lower case letters.
HWT engages young children in multiple modalities to make learning fun for all learners.
Meet Mat Man
Mat Man is the mascot of Handwriting Without Tears®.
Before children learn to write, there are many skills to master first.
That's where Mat Man steps in. Learning to build Mat Man engages children in learning body and spatial awareness, socializing, and sharing. Mat Man activities incorporate fun and lively music while children develop drawing and pre-writing skills, following directions, and sequencing.
